17 - Skinned
Pink deliciousness
cookie season has arrived
baking to stay warm
The bill has doubled down. Makes me want to dive back into the desert and burrow down with the lizards. The walls are peeling back from the persistent freeze-thaw on the janky shed. It should come down sooner than later. Before winter hibernation is over. Before the mud sucks our boots off completely. The dust swirls. The mud slurps. Part and parcel. Waiting patiently for the fly catchers to return to the mullein stalks. The world whips by furiously in the grips of capitalistic fatalism, and still can't wear the damn mask. Reading more thoroughly, ingesting tiny nuggets of whatever might/could/should/may come next. The future is fantastically unknown. Marvelous and vital - life's invisible chaos. How did all the denial come to pass?
18 - I spy a passerby
The full moon antics
are subdued and couch sunken
lost in fictional
The subtle loss of signal beacons the roar of the jet overhead. We lose substance regularly without notice. It's a strange thing this disintegration and growth. Our fingers tapping mindlessly and finding strength in the multitudes of discovery. So many reasons so little time to wonder. The research is limited, and the pens remain firmly seated in their cup. Subtleties aside. A compost bin thawing in the sunshine waiting to be unloaded and tumbled into a larger chunk of ice. They study the ice thawing to see when we should really start worrying. The melting disaster in the making. Meanwhile some lady takes a selfie on top of her car slowly sinking in the ice. How long does it take to freeze versus unfreeze? How long will it take to unfreeze ourselves? One day we will have compounded all the answers to the making. Our identity tied to a place that we cannot verify because the algorithm hasn't caught on to the changing.
19 - Mark making in outer spaces
A small winter hike
animal tracks in the snow
joy under blue skies
It used to be $1000 average, now it's $10,000 average. Up up and away. Unusual laws, intimidation, inappropriate language - the cost keeps adding up. I reconfigure the keys to improve the brain/finger connection. They know where they should go without even thinking. Reduce the friction. The buzzwords are buzzing. One bad day can ruin a weak. Determined determinate fun with pomegranate eyes staring listlessly. The light in the darkness is so very dim. I caught their scent in the breeze - a nomad leaving silent tracks. The pine tree shivers. They are there, here we are, and never the two shall meet except over eye-waves. The norm is go to work sick. The norm is absolute when the norm is 'can't afford not to.' They forgot how they misspoke on air. Offline, off-the-record, turn off the offramp, offed. Reading the passage of time in tiny shit pellets surfing fresh pow. Exactly how high can a cottontail jump anyway?
20 - One lapsed thought
Bunny under car
hitched a ride to Santa Fe
trip of a lifetime
All you have to do is just start. Whatever it is - just start. The problem is when you have too many starts, and not enough finishes. Weighing heavy. Weight that won't come off until the starting is stopped and the finishing is begun. They say ask the mountain if you can stay. When the juju conjuncts you can divine your place in the could of things. I am wary of misaligned. There are a hundred different opinions on the way you should be, but authentic is not one of them. Respect is a lost art. The only advice I can give is if they judge you, ignore them. Period - full stop. Keep hitching rides to who knows where wearing whatever you damn well want. Sometimes we are so caught up in ourselves that we've forgotten how to be in the world.
21 - The light in the darkness of the longest
A labyrinth walk
farolitos shine in night
welcome back the light
We get together to light small pieces of paper with detritus we would like to lay to rest followed by hope we would like to manifest. The winter/summer cycle continues, will continue, until our final marking of the elliptical. It's a kind of prayer or meditation to the universe. The recognition that we are part of the cycle. It's a simple, succinct, and candle-lit practice. We submit to intuition rather than reason for one longest night. We dismiss roiling in subjective and completely cosseted and make a messy hedge disrupting interpersonal boundaries. Another week of no precipitation. That is desert life clinging to the mounds of snow left behind. Suddenly sublimation makes perfect sense. The winter skies are proving to be magical - if magical is 100 hues of lavender and turquoise. Animate and inanimate intertwined like melancholia and moonbeams.
22 - The folly of the pitted
First steps are taken
unexpected rush of grief
competing with joy
They are almost universally not. What makes things the way they are? Where does this thing live, and why is that important? Can we turn a desert into a forest? Will need inspire done? The big thinkers are thinking, the deniers not doing. Is it simply a matter of rattling around the brain sac seeking custom letterhead seeking loose sheet compatibility? That's effective. The reflective nature of not doing is mirrored in the obnoxious-isms of the everyday. Take for instance an audacious stunt, stunted. If I didn't know now what I didn't know then, maybe I would know? The something else that has been cemented is certainly something else.
23 - The power of napping
Snow is on the way
believe it when we see it
prep for power loss
There is an ongoing debate about buried lies versus hanging lies. The debate is punctuated by lunatics ranting anti-vax altitude sickness non-sense. In both cases lives or the lies are on the line. A case of backlash against tiled backsplash preventing word rot and slow disintegration. Nothing clever here, just pass on by doing the electric boogaloo. The drumbeats of several wars are upon us, and all is fine. Fine and dandy. Twiddle thumbs. Flap your ears to drown out the cheers. That we can choose to reveal or hide ourselves at a moments notice does not go unnoticed. We have snoring down to an art-form, and I say that unspoken euphemism at least 10 times a day. Tired has a weight of making you seem less than.
